Portugal Has 20 New Golf courses Planned

Turismo de Portugal, has announced that 20 new golf courses are planned for Portugal, to be built from north to south, as well as the Algarve – an area that already boasts 50 courses. Portugal has 80 course into the entire nation. The quality, setting, and level of play make Portugal is one of Europe’s top golfing destinations. In Portugal’s mild climate, golf is played year-round. Several courses rated in the finest in Europe, with luxury clubhouses, manicured greens and flawless fairways. All courses are open to visitors. New course are either planned or under way.
 

Algarve offers music, festivals and sporting events

The Algarve region of Southern Portugal will host world-renowned performers, medieval festivals and sports championships throughout the summer months and into the fall. Musical acts include London-born singer Seal, who will perform on August 1at the CS Herdade dos Salgados Resort. There will also be a rare appearance by appearance by British rock band The Stranglers at the Parque Municipal de Feiras e Exposições de Lagoa on August 30, 2009. The historic village of Silves will host a medieval festival August 8-16 and the seaside town of Castro Marim will host its medieval festival August 27-30. During these weeks, each town will be transformed into 12th century villages, with beggars, traveling musicians, jugglers and other exotic characters walking the streets alongside visitors. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Iberian Windsurfing Federation will host its pro-am windsurfing championships at Martinhal beach in Sagres August 14-16. Officially recognized by the Spanish and Portuguese Windsurfing Federations, this circuit is considered to be the sport’s top competition in the Iberia Peninsula. This fall, golfers will enjoy the Portugal Masters, held October 15-18, 2009 at the Oceânico Victoria Golf Course in the upscale resort town of Vilamoura. Newly expanded 18 -hole course opens in Terceira Island

The green island of Terceira has a newly expanded 18 -hole course known as the Terceira Golf Club. The course is quite popular with officers from the U.S. and NATO airbase on the island. With the winter season setting in, many golf fans begin looking for warm places to play. Golf fans needing a fresh new place to go should consider the Azores. Just four hours by plane from Boston, the Azores Islands are the closest point in Europe to the United States. Oceânico Resort To Host World Kids Golf Championship

Oceânico Resort will welcome the stars of tomorrow in a World Kids Golf event that looks set to attract golfing starlets from across the globe. The hotel regularly welcomes the stars of the European Tour to the Oceânico Victoria Course for the Portugal Masters, this July  the future stars of world golf will come to the inaugural Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship. The Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship will welcome young golfers from across the globe to test their skills over three of Oceânico’s championships courses in the Algarve; Oceânico Faldo, Oceânico O’Connor and Oceânico Pinhal between the 26-30 July 2009. The championship is sanctioned by the Portuguese Golf Federation and is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 16, with competition categories being determined by both age and gender. Kids aged 10 years and over will compete over 18 holes each day, while children under 10 years will play 9 holes on each of the three competition days.
