Private and public investors have unveiled a 'Minho IN' plan designed to invest €400 million through to 2015 on developing a network of golf courses and other developments for the Minho region (Norte). The first stage of Minho IN will be €13 million. The development involves three regional governments, 24 local governments and 400 private developers who seek to update an image of the region and build it into a competitive tourist destination. The Algarve has won, for the third time, the German magazine GOLFmagazin’s Best Golf Destination in Europe award. Judges came from inside the sport, and from the magazine’s readers. Points of consideration were infrastructure, hotels and luxury facilities, and overall quality and professionalism. A new luxury hotel is set to open on September 1st 2010.. Situated 20 minutes form Lisbon, the Oitavos, will open on 1st September, 2010, with 142 guest rooms, a golf course built around sand dunes, and salt water swimming pools. The nature inspired property is located within the family owned Quinta da Marinha estate, within the Sintra-Cascais National Park.
