Tour operator Vertigem Azul is offering tourists the chance of a close-up view of the rare bottlenose dolphins in the Sado estuary, south of Lisbon. Guided boat tours along the picturesque Arrábida coast and into the estuary operate throughout the year, with snorkeling stopovers included during the summer months. Trips last for three hours and cost 30 euros for adults and 20 euros for children, subject to a minimum of eight passengers. Set between the Tróia Peninsula and the fishing port of Setúbal, the Sado is home to approximately thirty bottlenose dolphins, some up to 13 feet in length. The surrounding area is a nature reserve with much to see in the way of wildlife and a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the famous storks that can often be seen nesting majestically at the top of electricity pylons.

The new Lonely Planet Travel with Children: Your Complete Resource has just been published its "Top 10" list for beach holidays includes Tavira, in the Algarve as one of the top destinations for families looking for a beach vacation. And, the book names Lisbon as one of the Top 10 City Breaks. The book's emphasis on international travel may seem somewhat exotic to Americans who are less familiar with destinations outside North America and Europe, but it stresses the value of world travel for kids.  Lonely Planet founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler traveled often with their children from the time they were babies. So, Travel with Children offers advice on how to minimize problems by picking the right destinations, remaining flexible, and involving kids in planning and problem-solving.
