Future Design and Fashion Museum to open in 2008

By the end of 2008, Lisbon will offer a Design and Fashion Museum ( known as MUDE). The new museum will be housed in the Verride Palace, dating from the first half of the 18th century (also known as Santa Catarina Palace) Enjoying a sweeping view of the river Tejo, Bairro Alto and Chiado, the museum unites two of the most charming and cultural neighbourhoods in Lisboa. The building will feature eight floors (two underground) and a total of 1,200 m2 of exhibit space. The Mude collection will comprise the Francisco Capelo collection, considered to be one of the most important on an international level. It consists of around 1,000 furniture and design objects and 1,200 high fashion pieces that have marked the most important artistic periods of the 20th century. This collection is further enhanced by more than 40 industrial design objects, as well as a vast number of books on design and fashion which will be housed in the museum’s future documentation centre. www.visitlisboa.com50 years of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon

To mark 50 years of the Fundação Gulbenkian the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, with the Portuguese Film Institute will offer the pick of the best 50 films from 1973 to 1990, these films changed the Portuguese film industry, and made a real impact of Portuguese culture. The Northern City of Lamego shines with silver at a show of silver work inspired by the grape varietals of Port Wine at the city museum. As part of the ongoing celebration of 250 years of Port wine, the exposition will run until the end of February and feature the art of known artists such as Álvaro Siza Vieira, Eduardo Souto Moura, Graça Sarsfield and José Pedro Croft.
