Oliveira de Frades is Portugal’s chicken Capital

Oliveira de Frades is the National Chicken Capital, a name which is greatly due to the fact that Portugal’s poultry sector is strongly rooted in the town.

Besides being a pioneer in creating range chicken, Oliveira de Frades has been the scene of several avian events over the last few years. The Annual Festival, including gourmet chicken shows, combining with strength with a variety of performances and cultural attractions, from music to sports.

This year, the event is strengthened with the pronouncement as the capital free-range chickens. The proclamation as National Chicken Capital was made in the 15th Chapter of the Confraternity of Lafões.

Casa da Esquina, a sewing café, opened recently in Coimbra. It is believed to be the first café in the country with four sewing machines, a cutting and sewing table and a library of templates (5 euros/ hour with a right to a cafe). Two or three times a year there is a fair with second-hand clothes, exhibitions, workshops, gatherings, a exchange market for children and, more recently, the studio of Radio kids Fantastic.

New four-star Hotel in Alvaiázere

After seven months of remodeling and an investment of half a million euros, the Silver Coast Hotel and Hotel & SPA reopened in Figueira da Foz. After 34 years it is now more contemporary with an elegant decor, inspired by design hotels. The refurbishment included 42 of the 68 hotel rooms and all public areas, including the reception, lounge, bar, business center and a panoramic breakfast room. The name and logo of the Hotel Costa de Prata, were changed to be the Silver Coast Hotel & SPA.
