If you're a nature lover then Pico Island in the Azores is an ideal place for all sorts of outdoor activities - from walks or bike rides to seeing whales and dolphins. The Pousadas da Juventude Youth Hostel is set near the sea in the former Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara (17th century), in São Roque.  And, as for hiking, Pico Island, the second largest island of the Archipelago of the Azores has the highest peak in Portugal.
