Cascade Resort Now Operational

The five-star Cascade Resort opened its doors for the first time on April 15, 2011 on a soft-opening basis, with the official inauguration ceremony scheduled for the summer. Located at Ponta da Piedade in Lagos, western Algarve, the hotel has 86 rooms designed with a maritime discoveries theme, incorporating the four continents of Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. Set on a cliff-top, with spectacular sea views right along the coastline, the resort covers a total area of 38 hectares in which, besides the hotel rooms, 58, one and two bedroom apartments and luxury townhouses are also located. Chief among the attractions are the Cascade Performance Sports Academies endorsed by top sportsmen and other figures of international renown, such as Sven-Göran Eriksson, Stefan Edberg and Martin Ertl. Other facilities include an art spa, medical centre, an assortment of restaurants, shopping plaza, villas, townhouses, apartments and several beaches within easy walking distance.

 

New Hotel at Faro Airport

A new hotel at Faro airport will soon be providing travelers at the busy Algarve hub with a mid-budget stop-over option, ideal for early-morning and late-night departures. Operated by Portuguese hotel group Tavfer, the hotel will have 96 guest-rooms, a ground-floor restaurant, two modern auditoriums, boutiques, a fitness center, spa and outdoor swimming pool. Construction is soon to begin, with the new property due to be unveiled by 2013.


 

Portimão Museum wins award in Germany

he Portimão Museum won the first edition of DASA – Global Awards of Work and Technology of 2011, held this weekend in Dortmund, Germany. Portimão Museum’s supervisor was in Dortmund to represent the project which was one of 19 nominated (and the only Portuguese) for the Micheletti award of Best Industrial Museum in Europe. The Portuguese museum ended up being recognized as the best among the museums “work”-focused at a ceremony held in the DASA Museum of Work and Technology in Dortmund, Germany. This international conference was held by the European Museum Academy and the Luigi Micheletti Foundation. "The recognition of this museum is very important, in a vision linked more to a historical perspective. The Portimão Museum is already one of the most awarded in Portugal,” says José Gameiro.
In 2010 it received the “European Council Museum” award, as well as the “Tourism of Portugal” award in 2009, and an honorable mention in the category of “Best Portuguese Museum” in 2008 by the Portuguese Association of Museums. Rota Vincentina is a New Hiking Route along the Vicentina coast of Alentejo

Southern Portugal has a major new hiking route, with 150 miles of trails, divided into two routes that complement each other: the historic path, which recreates the old road and crossing the main towns, and the path of fishermen along the coast and across the entire Costa Vicentina park. The Vicentina trails are scheduled to open in late 2011, with an eye to nature tourism.
