The Caves at the Alentejo’s Escoural are known for traces of Paleolithic rock art. The caves are open to visits from the public this July (2011). The main cave was closed for renovations for two years but is now due to join the tours at Alentejo. Visitors can see inscriptions, including zoomorphic representations, dating from the Upper Paleolithic era.
