Pé de Xumbo and traditional instruments

Pé de Xumbo, a non-profit Portuguese association created in 1998, focuses on the recovery and promotion of dance and traditional music. Recovering traditions (musical and choreographic) and merging them with contemporary elements is part of that mission. They also promote music and dance as an exchange between generations, cultures and knowledge – thus attracting new audiences. PédeXumbo encourages knowledge of the Portuguese dance repertoire, and organizes events that contextualize the traditional dances. Pédexumbo (or Leadfoot) has been engaged with numerous musical ensembles influenced by events, publications, literature, audio albums and documentaries. Pedexumbo is the only association with a professional structure in Portugal working in the field of folk dances in a creative and innovative way and has captivated new audiences by promoting new and exciting dance groups.
