Five star hotel to open in February 2013 in Vila Viçosa in former marble quarry

A five-star hotel with 42 rooms and three suites, will open in mid February 2013 in Vila Viçosa (Alentejo), an investment of 6.5 million euros. Marmoris Hotel and Spa will be open in inside a former mill building, which is being restored and adapted. The hotel's name (Marmoris refers to marble tile) stems from the fact that Vila Viçosa is known for its marble, and that the marble will be widely used in the construction of the hotel – including the ground floor, which includes a spa. The spa is completely inside a quarry, surrounded by huge walls of marble. Vila Viçosa has "enormous potential - cultural, historical and monumental.”
Casas de Juromenhas - new area of rural tourism in the Alentejo

The Alentejo boasts a new unit of Rural Tourism, the Casas de Juromenhas, near the town of Alandroal, along the river Guadiana which has nine double rooms and three suites divided into six houses. The Casas de Juromenha is built as a small farm that includes an olive grove that ends along the banks of the Guadiana and sprang from the recovery of the existing building, a project by architect João Pedro Sousa Coelho. All homes are equipped with air-conditioning, fireplace, kitchen, TV, wireless internet and the units also offer an outdoor pool overlooking the Guadiana River, and serves bar snacks. The project is located near several tourist attractions including Alqueva, Vila Viçosa, Borba, Estremoz, Elvas and Olivença, and offers various activities in partnership with the company Wadnature. Activities range from water sports such as downhill kayaking and windsurfing courses, tours to observe the fauna and flora, falconry demonstrations, and tours of historic interest and stargazing. To kick things off, they are offering five nights for the price of four. As for rates, a house accomodating four adults is about 110 euros, while the double rooms for two adults are priced from 60 euros per night including breakfast.
New Rossio Hotel is set to open in Portalegre

Just next month Portalegre’s new Rossio Hotel, a four star hotel will open in the Alentejo. With 15 rooms, two suites and one junior suite, including a room suitable for people with reduced mobility, the Rossio Hotel celebrates the Alentejo in many quarters. The rooms are themed and inspired in the region and the towns that are part of the district: Namely: Alter do Chao, Arronches, Avis, Campo Maior, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Elvas, Fronteira, Gavião, Marvão, Monforte, Nisa, Ponte de Sor, Portalegre and Sousel. Private parking, SPA, Fitness and Internet 'free wireless' is available in the entire hotel and also the new unit Alentejo. The price of accommodation varies between 45 euros and 150 euros. For the first month, the Rossio Hotel is doing a promotion, offering of the 3rd night free for stays of two nights
Vicentina Route to launch on May 11, 2012

The new Vicentina Route, along the rugged western coast of the region, is set to open on May 11, 2012. The walking and cycling route will run from Santiago do Cacém in the Alentejo to Sagres in the Algarve and is to be integrated into the extensive European GR11 route part of the GR footpath network of paths, tracks and trails which will connect Sagres to St. Petersburg. 60% of the land in the Algarve is protected and the new route is part of a tourism initiative to promote areas of the Algarve beyond its popular coastline.Five star hotel will open near the Roman ruins of Torre de Palma in Monforte

Monforte, in the district of Portalegre, Alentejo, will have a charming, five star country hotel built on a farm near the ruins of the Roman villa, Torre de Palma, an investment of more than three million euros. The works have started and will have a duration of 18 months, with the opening set for the first half of 2014.
