Évora – Guided tours in an electric car

Come and discover Évora, taking a one-hour tour of the city in an electric car, accompanied by a graduate of Art History. The aim of these tours of of Évora is to show the great architectural wealth of this city, whose historic center was classified by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage in 1986. The tour takes in the following points of interest: • M’ar de Ar Aqueduto Hotel; • Garcia Resende Theatre; • Roman Temple; • Santa Mónica Convent; • Espírito Santo College; • Portas de Moura Fountain; • São Francisco Church and Convent; • Aqueduct Water Box; • Praça do Giraldo; • Cerca Nova (New City Wall). The guided tours are provided in Portuguese, Spanish, English and French, and take place every Thursday at 11:00 am and every Saturday at 4:00 pm. Visits outside of these times must be booked 48 hours in advance.
 

Hike the Vincentine coast

Sagres will open a the Rota Vincentina hiking  trails that will start in Santiago do Cacem and finish in Sagres. The route will have the historical trail markers that passes by the major villages and a sub path called fishermen route that goes along the coast. This project is being developed in partnership with Associacao Casas Brancas e Almargem and should be up and running by November 2011.
 

Largest Bacalhau Dourada cod-fish dish in the world

Foodees in Elvas are cooking up the largest Bacalhau Dourada cod-fish dish in the world, using six thousand eggs, 350 kilos of potato, the same of cod-fish, and 20 liters of olive oil, to feed 3,000 people and make the Guinness World Book of Records this is a typical dish of Elvas, cooked up in a 20 by 2 meter dish of 3,000 people. The historic  city of Elvas is located near the border between Portugal and Spain and is on the main highway between Lisbon and Madrid.
 

Planning the Coastal Alentejo

A Southeast Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park Land Use Plan (PO-PNSACV) will focus on new more infrastructures for surfers and camper and add new four-star hotels. New infrastructures and other necessary work for improving roads, RV parking areas, surf-board storage, surf schools, and electricity and water points will be created under the PO-PNSACV project. Supporting the creation of four-star hotels, nature-tourism and rural tourism are other ideas under the plan.

 

Alentejo has Portugal’s 2018 Ryder Cup candidacy

The Comporta Dunes project, a golf course planned by Tom Fazio for the Setúbal region of the Alentejo coast, will be Portugal’s candidate to host the 2018 Ryder Cup. It will be competing with applicants from Spain, Holland, France, Germany and Sweden. The Ryder Cup is the third largest sports event worldwide media coverage, with 1.1 billion (tele) spectators, after the Olympic Games 3.7 and 3.4 of the World Cup. The Comporta Dunes golf course will be designed by a renowned architect, and will be part of a project that consists of two five-star hotels. The final location of the 2018 Ryder Cup will only be known in 2011 and the hosting country will have to invest €140 million by 2018, €12million of which must go into promotions and golf tournaments every year.
