SATA Azores Express offers daily service from Boston to Lisbon, Portugal

On Wednesday June 8th SATA Azores Express will kick off direct and daily flights from Boston Logan Airport to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. The airline will expand to two direct flights each week (Wednesday and Sunday), five via the Azores (Ponta Delgada), and one connecting through Terceira in the Azores. SATA is also launching summer air and hotel packages from Boston to discover Lisbon, for around $1,039-$1,249 plus taxes, per person. The packages include six night accommodations, breakfast, and roundtrip airfare from Boston on SATA. Direct flights to Lisbon take about five and a half hours when departing from Boston, while flying to the Azores is just four hours. Lisbon is Portugal's capital and largest city. Being the westernmost capital in Europe, the city’s mild climate is influenced by the Gulf Stream. Following the recent agreement between SATA and U.S. Airways, it is now possible to purchase tickets from various destinations in the U.S. to Portugal online with SATA. As of last week SATA, Portugal¹s second largest airline, lets passengers use their site at www.sata.pt to purchase tickets from various gateways within the United States of America, including, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Philadelphia, Orlando and San Francisco and New York to the Azores. With this new option customers who want to travel between the United States and the Azores and, soon, between the United States and mainland Portugal, may purchase their tickets with ease and with very competitive rates. The idea is part of SATA's strategy of expansion into North America where the airline had increases in traffic of 19.5% for the United States and 11.9% for Canada in 2010 compared to 2009. This new partnership will offer convenience to travelers on both sides of the Atlantic by allowing customers to travel on one single e-ticket and by offering through check-in service. Travelers will be able to check their bags to their final destination and receive boarding cards for both carriers¹ flights upon check-in with either US Airways in the U.S. or SATA in Portugal.
