Sagres is one of Portugal’s most historic towns, set on a headland overlooking a picturesque harbor located at the south-westernmost point of continental Europe – once known as world’s end and home to one of the most famous personalities of Portugal’s Age of Discovery and Exploration: Prince Henry the Navigator, who helped finance Portugal’s Voyages of Discovery during the 15th century and helped build the town, its fortification and established a school of navigation near the town. The town lies within the boundaries of a protected natural park that lends the area a wild, untamed character that helps personify the town as a destination steeped in myth and legend. There are 22 beaches within a 30 min drive, ranging from monumental cliffs and exquisite pebbly coves to long sweeping stretches of sand where you will only find amazing Atlantic rollers for company. Sagres is only just now becoming recognized as one of the best surf spots in Europe, offering both south and west-facing coastlines and therefore providing fine surf conditions whole year round for all surfer levels regardless of the swell and wind direction. Some of the best beaches for beginners are Castelejo, Amado, Carrapateira and Arrifana and for more experienced surfers we highly recommend Ponta Ruiva, Cordoama and Vale Figueiras. Waves as high as 10m have already been spotted and these beaches are frequently visited by top level surfers as Gustavo Gouveia, Marlon Lipke, Abílio Pinto and Alex Botelho. Also winter time is great for surfing as the region enjoys many sunny days, temperatures in the sun are around 20°C, and few days with less than 15°C water temperature!

Casas da Juromenha is the name of a new development of rural tourism which has just opened doors in Juromenha on the River Guadiana in the Alentejo. The project has six independent houses with two double bedrooms, coming from the conversion of historic village houses. Near the dam at Alqueva, there is access to water sports like kayaking and windsurfing, along with other activities like star gazing, and nature tourism- particularly guided hikes on the local fauna and flora. At Casas de Juromenha, the styling and atmosphere combines the simplicity of the countryside with modern home comforts. Six houses, simply decorated to reflect the country life, but all still offering the comfort and elegance you expect. All the houses are fitted with air-conditioning, fireplace, fully equipped kitchen (with microwave oven, stove and fridge), TV and wireless internet.Strategic Juromenha sits at a point on the Guadiana River, crossing just two steps from Spain and neighboring Olivença (once a Portuguese town).  It has always been of interest to the various peoples that have inhabited the Iberian Peninsula. According to an ancient tradition, the first walls were built by the Romans. By the time of the Moors, Juromenha, then known as Chelmena, had become an important strategic position for defending Badajoz. In 1167, Juromenha was conquered by Gerald the Fearless and fell into Portuguese hands for the first time. It was taken again by the Almohads (Moors) in 1191, and became Portuguese permanently in 1242 when it was reconquered by Dom Paio Peres Correia, Master of the Order of Santiago. Since then, Juromenha Castle has played an important part in the defense of the Portuguese border. It was rebuilt by Dom Dinis, the king who gave the town its charter, in 1312. In the 20th century, the fortress, which houses the mother church and the mercy church, the former Town Hall and an old prison, was classified as a property of public interest. Restoration works were performed, which ran from 1950 to 1996.
