The EDEN Award promotes models of sustainable development in European nations that earn the title of a European Destination of Excellence. The prestigious distinction has been given to the Natural Park of Faial in the Azores for its work to maintain diversity and sustain natural resources. The award also aids in building tourism and helping local populations to maintain their unique cultural practices. The park has five visitor centers, pedestrian trails and works with local hotel groups to create affordable packages.
