First major hotel under construction Alfama

The Memmo Baleeira, which began in Sagres, will invest 12.5 million euros in two hotels, set to open in 2013 in the historic Alfama, Lisbon. The Memmo debut in Lisbon is the Travessa das Merceeiras, near the Cathedral, with 43 rooms, a four-star rating, cafeteria and swimming pool with panoramic views of Alfama. Here, the goal is to promote the genuine side of Lisbon. A year later, in 2014, the new Memmo Príncipe Real will open.

Caminha’s new 4 star CH Design & Wine Hotel has five suites installed on a raised platform with a pillar that weighs 18 tons and rotates on it very own. This is new thinking in the new luxury Design & Wine designed by Pedro Guimaraes. It has 23 thematic rooms in an 18th century old building known as the Solar das Torres. The five suites overlook the Minho River and the Santa Tecla mountains and can rotate 35 degrees (it takes 5 minutes) two times a day so that the guests fall to sleep looking the mountain and awake looking at the river. Also, there is a restaurant featuring regional dishes.

Five star hotel to open in February 2013 in Vila Viçosa in former marble quarry

A five-star hotel with 42 rooms and three suites, will open in mid February 2013 in Vila Viçosa  (Alentejo), an investment of 6.5 million euros. Marmoris Hotel and Spa will be open in inside a former mill building, which is being restored and adapted. The hotel's name (Marmoris refers to  marble tile) stems from the fact that Vila Viçosa is known for its marble, and that the marble will be widely used in the construction of the hotel – including the ground floor, which includes a spa.  The spa is completely inside a quarry, surrounded by huge walls of marble.  Vila Viçosa has "enormous potential - cultural, historical and monumental.”


 

Eurostars with new hotel in Portugal

Castelo de Paiva has a new hotel, the Eurostars Douro River Hotel & Spa, which opened in February. Set on the left bank of the Douro River, the new unit offers 42 rooms equipped with the latest technological innovations and panoramic views over the River. The hotel also offers a marina with capacity for 26 boats, a panoramic restaurant offering local cuisine, three cafeterias, gym, and meeting rooms with capacity for 120 people.
