Hotel do Chiado to be "more Portuguese"
Wednesday, 17 October 2012 00:00
A Lisbon hotel should be comfortable, modern and, at the same time …. Portuguese. That is the goal of the remodeling at the Hotel do Chiado, to be completed early next year. Turisver.com assured Celia Loureiro, General Director, the remodeling will take a phased approach without disruption to guests. In existence for 12 years and currently operating as an independent unit, Hotel do Chiado, rated four stars in the heart of Lisbon, is undergoing a renovation process that will change its image. The Oriental decor will be replaced by a decoration spirit more Portuguese and Lisbon. The process, spearheaded by Ramos Catarino, has begun the in the reception area and is almost complete. The fourth model is already being used. The differences lie mainly in the decoration and furniture and everything is being done in a phased manner, and "without causing any kind of discomfort guests."
In July, the restaurant, bar and panoramic terrace were extended to the area of the lawn "with a more trendy and relaxed" appearance. The bar and terrace were recently completed. If all goes as planned, in early 2013, the entire refurbishment of the hotel will be completed.
Public areas will follow the décor of the rooms. The concept “will be completely inspired by what is culturally Portuguese. We are in Chiado, the heart of Lisbon and it makes no sense that we have an Eastern concept, but we speak of Chiado, their identity, their DNA,” explains Celia Loureiro, adding that, “the purpose of this remodeling has mainly to do with the return of the soul to the Chiado.” In this sense, states the general director, the hotel has already done some work, especially with regard to amenities, as they were “all were switched to Portuguese brands.”
