Golden Year for Portugal at World Travel Awards: Portugal is top golf and beach destination

The 2012 World Travel Awards, hosted at the new Conrad Algarve Resort saw Portugal win seven awards. The Algarve region, the golfing industry and three hotels were among the winners.
Portugal scooped the following recognition; Europe’s Leading Golf Destination and Europe’s Leading Beach Destination, which saw the Algarve win the top award.
The Conrad Algarve Resort claimed the title Europe’s Leading New Resort; Vila Joya Resort was named Europe’s Leading Boutique Resort; Dunas Douradas Beach Club was named Europe's Leading Villa & Apartment Residences; Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel received the award for Europe’s Leading Villa Resort and Quinta do Lago Hotel was elected the Mediterranean's Leading Hotel.
Coimbra University Tower now open to visitors

The Tower of the University of Coimbra, which is almost three centuries old, opened to the public after preservation work. Guided tours may now be booked in advance. And, you can climb to the top of the Tower of the University of Coimbra, the largest academic symbol of the city. From the top of the tower with 180 steps and 34 meters high, it is possible to see almost the entire city, the fields and the Mondego River and the hills surrounding Coimbra. Tickets can be purchased at the University Store (Main Library atrium, near the Porta Férrea).
British royal barge arrives in the Douro

The Spirit of Chartwell, a barge used by Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate the Jubilee on the Thames, will now be in the service of Douro Azul. The royal barge Spirit of Chartwell was purchased by Mário Ferreira and will, from now on, offer cruises from Porto, inaugurating a new service from Douro Azul. For between 3,500 and 5,000 euros per week, enjoy the same luxury as the Queen of England - but on the River Douro.. The vessel should begin operating regularly in March 2013. The Spirit of Chartwell, decorated in purple and gold, is 64 meters long, has 14 luxury cabins and a royal suite.
Lisbon Airport goes cultural and creative

Lisbon Airport is promoting a program of cultural and creative initiatives that involve long exposures to music and dance, through food and design. Every two months, until March 2013, there will be an exhibition that stays for two months, including musical notes, and artisan demonstrations, among other initiatives. This program, which according to ANA Airports, offers a wide range of renowned partners, includes culinary weeks, with book launches and signings performing artist residencies, among others. The aim of the initiative is to respond to a "need highly valued by passengers, according to the latest survey of satisfaction evaluation, where it was noted that this component was missing at Airports national," says the management company from Lisbon Airport. The actions will take place in public areas of arrivals and departures, as well as areas reserved for passengers with boarding passes (zone matches, transit and arrival).
