Either way the Cork route, or the Rota da Cortiça, has grown into the Algarve. The Cork Trail is branching south from the Alentejo to hit on six ecological themes in the Algarve : patrimony, nature, rural life, tradition, innovation and knowledge. One can see cork groves, and see the factories that churn out cork products. Cork is the renewable bark of a tree that grows back every seven years. It supports the largest forest in Southern Europe and more than 15,000 jobs.
