Nautical tourism growing in the Azores

The marinas and nautical recreation centers of the Azores welcomed a total of three thousand ships in 2011, carrying about 12,000 crew members. At the top was the marina of Horta on Faial, which accounted for more than 100 sailboats in 2010. According to the Ports of the Azores, Faial Island hosted the biggest number of tourists from nautical tourism, receiving about six thousand, mostly English and French, followed by the marinas of Angra do Heroism, Terceira, and Ponta Delgada, S. Miguel. Velas, on the island of São Jorge, handled the largest number of boats, 430, in 2011, 50 more than in 2010.
