Collette Vacations Introduces New Garden Tour in Portugal

U.S. tour operator Collette Vacations, in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the UK’s foremost gardening charity, has today released a complete line of new tours presented in its first-ever RHS Garden Holidays brochure.

Featuring a selection of carefully designed horticultural-themed travel packages with destinations around the world, the RHS Garden Holidays will inspire all, from the greenest of gardeners to more experienced horticulturists, with visits to exclusive gardens, private or expert tours of exceptional public and botanical gardens, and the chance to see many plants in their natural habitat.  The tours are also rich in cultural highlights, making them of equal appeal to any non-gardening travel companions.

The brochure contains a total of 11 tours, with departures for certain itineraries starting as early as May 2013.

Page 19 - Portugal’s Gardens featuring the Azores and Lisbon – 10 days, 15 meals, from $2,249: Fly to the Azorean island of St. Michael, the largest of the nine volcanic islands that form the archipelago of the Azores. Each tour is accompanied by one of Collette’s expert tour managers, with local guides also being used where appropriate.  In addition, some departures will also be accompanied by an RHS horticulturist, such as a Curator or specialist in their field.

 

Lisbon on Sale: Direct flights from Boston this spring for just $650

SATA Airlines is offering round trip, direct flights from Boston to Lisbon, Portugal starting from $650 per person, all taxes and fees included. The deal is for selected dates between March 31 and June 3, 2013. Tickets need be purchased by the end of March 30, 2013.

The price includes round trip airfare, fuel surcharges, all pre-collected United States and foreign taxes and fees. SATA’s free checked baggage allowance is two pieces up to 100 pounds. SATA is expanding its flight to four times a week this spring from Boston.

Hotel Termal do Cró to be completed in late 2013

The Hotel  Termal do Cró  near Sabugal (Centro de Portugal Region) is due for completion in December 2013. The hotel unit will be built alongside a new thermal spa, and represents an investment of about three million euros. The hotel, located in Rapoula Côa will be a "Natura Resort", which is already managing the spa. The Hotel & Spa will have four stars, 30 rooms (24 doubles, two doubles and four superior suites), and also containing an auditorium.

Corvo, Solar Island

Corvo will be the first island in the Azores, Portugal to have solar panels and heat pumps in all its homes, a project that will allow the island to reduce monthly expenses population and improve the quality of life.The first phase of the installation of solar panels and heat pumps to replace butane gas consumption in Corvo is practically complete, and involved 37 of the 145 existing houses inhabited an island with little more than 400 inhabitants.The local government is currently paying 24.18 euros for transport per gas cylinder between Ponta Delgada and Corvo, with 300 being shipped each month.That number will now drop to 100.This is the first phase of this project with an investment of about 400 million euros, through a direct collaboration between the Regional Government and the Town of Corvo, having a direct impact on the efficiency of the island to provide the population with better energy supply. For the second phase of the project, which will install solar panels and heat pumps in 108 homes, is currently under review. In the 37 homes that were already have installed the equipment, people can finally use the dishwasher in the kitchen and take a shower, and the water temperature is always the same.
